I previously watched a video, 15 Qualities of a Claim, on how to take free kicks so I was trying to use that knowledge and apply it on the pitch.
So just like in soccer I placed my ball, topic, on the field and attempted a few free kicks to get my shooting going. The first draft is a process that a person does alone as no one has been able to peer review it yet but before I could do that I had to develop a claim from my previous proposals. The ball I chose and the topic I picked was politics and sports.Īfter picking my topic it was time to attempt to write my first draft. Finally after running around a bit on the field it was time to get a few touches to the ball to practice shooting. After I had a few topics ready I picked the two that seemed to strike as the most interesting and began writing possible proposals as to develop my claim (Evidence Proposal #1/ Proposal #2). Upon receiving the prompt for the research paper the first thing I did was warm up by partaking in a writing process where I write out possible topics that interest me (Evidence/Brain Storming). You do not jump right on the field and begin playing but rather you make sure your shoes fit, you check if your cleats match the type of field you will be playing on, and you begin stretching to make sure you do not pull a muscle. To begin, when I first received the writing prompt for my research paper was like in soccer stepping out on the turf in brand new shoes. Some sports can serve as a better metaphor over others but it seems the sport of soccer can be used to most easily and accurately show how my writing has been able to improve over the time of the course. For example a formal business letter will be written with a different genre or style than a text message to a best friend. The different types of sports are like the different types of genres of writing. Some sports do not permit the use of feet while others do not permit the use of hands. There are many variations of sports and each type of sports has its own rules. The process of writing is a lot like playing sports.
